Bicycles

Post by Kit » Sat Dec 15, 2012 2:50 pm

Your thoughts on bicycles used for scouting, getting to, and getting from a site? If not bicycle, then what is your preferred method?

My thoughts:
They're light, can be fast, and also can cut through things that vehicles can't, better manoeuvrability. People don't seem to notice bicyclists as much as people on foot.

However, you can't bring a lot of gear unless you have saddlebags, it must be balanced, not too heavy, etc. It can also get stolen, and can stand out if in the front of a building.

Oh yeah, bikes are great for all of the above. And sometimes sites are so big you need a bike to see more!

I ride a bare bones redline bmx bike. I feel that mountain bikes are too bulky and harder to hide if needed.

What about for evading threats? Ofc not the cops (who would ever do that?!) but just angry land owners or such.

That's why I ride bmx, simple, durable, lightweight and fast...outruns cops, security on segways, angry land owners and most dogs....and as a bonus, less moving parts than a mountain bike...

I suppose it boils down to a preference. Easy escape but you look like a hoodlum. Mountain bikes are easier to roll incognito, but as previously stated, are heavier and bulkier.
