Don’t reveal the location
- Never post the full name of the location, or the address/coordinates.
- Vague regions are generally ok (i.e. “central-midwest”) if the place is “well-known”, meaning the spot is blown out, tagged up, and is known to the general public.
- Not everything is worth posting. “Holy Grail” or untouched buildings are rare these days. Posting the spot right away can have a negative effect on it.
- Make sure your images are not reverse searchable through Google Lens or other means. You might be exposing the spot without knowing it!
- Don’t post how you got in, climbed up, unlocked, or bypassed anything.
- Don’t “live-share” or post a spot on social media right after doing it. This protects yourself and the spot!
- If the spot is pristine, has power, or is brand new, it's best to not post it at all until it reaches “well-known” status, or gets demoed or reno’d. Don’t contribute to a spot getting ruined!
- Some explorers will even sit on photos/videos until the Statute of Limitations runs out or even until a spot is completely gone.
- Avoid posting identifying information publicly without permission (Faces, vehicles, license plates, paperwork, etc)
- Always carefully double and triple check your potential posts for identifying information before you upload!
- Blur any information you are unsure about (there are free apps in the app stores that can do this)
- Consent is important! Always ask the people in your photos/videos if you are unsure.
- Avoid maintaining a publicly visible exploring account.
- Taggers, scrappers, vandals, and many others with bad intentions are and will be following your accounts online looking for their next spot; don’t make it easy for them!
- You may get access to private forums and chats where people feel comfortable sharing photos/videos they don’t want posted publicly. Please don’t repost and/or share someone else’s stuff without permissions and credit. It's just uncool m’kay?
- Ask yourself: “Could this post blow the spot or get someone in trouble?”. If the answer is yes, don’t post it!
- If you’re unsure, ask an admin or your fellow trusted explorers.
